Itinerary

Day 1: ULAANBAATAR

Welcome to Mongolia. We will pick you up from Chinggis Khan International Airport and take you to your hotel. After check in and taking some rest at the hotel, we will start exploring the city. First, we will visit National History Museum of Mongolia to learn about Mongolian history, culture and ethnic groups. Then Gandan Monastery will be our next stop. It is one of the biggest monasteries and the main place for pilgrims and monks. Afterwards, we will go to Zaisan Hill to see the panoramic view of the capital city.

Day 2: ULAANBAATAR- KARAKORUM

After breakfast, our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel. We will head to Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mongolian Empire. In fact, this is as typical city as we will see on our trip, but it used to be an ancient capital of Great Empire of Mongolia during 13th century. The Karakorum was established in the 12th century and became Mongolia’s capital city. We will visit Erdenezuu Monastery which was the first Buddhist Monastery built in Mongolia and one of three biggest monastic centers as well.  Also we will visit Karakorum museum.

Day 3: KARAKORUM- ULAAN TSUTGALAN 

After breakfast, we will head to Orkhon Valley to see the biggest waterfall Ulaan Tsutgalan (25m) and Uurtiin Tohoi, the unique natural formation. The Valley was inscribed by UNESCO in the World Heritage Site list.

Day 4: ULAAN TSUTGALAN- BUURUG- KHUIS NUUR

We will get up early in the morning and drive to Buurug Valley to meet our horse guides and start horse trekking. The next sight is Tsagaan Azarga Valley where we will visit Namjildorj’s family and have lunch. The terrain in this area is forest, trap stone, and volcanic remains. After lunch, we will head to Khuis Nuur. There will be a herding family waiting for us when we get there. On the way, we will see Duruu and Bayan Lakes. We will build our camping ger at the west Shore of Khuis Lake. Nomad kids are hardworking and anxiously engaged with chores such as training horses, milking mares and cows, boiling milk, and producing airag (kumis) fermented mare milk. Before dinner, you can participate in their daily work if you want.

Day 5: KHUIS NUUR- SHIREET NUUR

We will get up early in the morning and have breakfast. Then we will see how the nomads prepare for migrating to another place. It will be interesting to watch how they disassemble their ger and pack their supplies on yaks. Once we are prepared to move, we will herd horses and yaks with the nomads and ride up to Shireet Mountain. We will pass Khaliut, Bugat, Khaya and Shanaa lakes and arrive at north Shore of Shireet Lake and have picnic lunch. Afterwards, we will take some rest there.

Day 6: SHIREET NUUR-SHURANGA

After breakfast, we will pack our baggage and other supplies and continue to horse trek. We will travel on the beautiful Tusheet Mountain and take some pictures. We will have picnic lunch on the Shireet Mountain (2800-3000 meters) and continue trekking to go downhill till the shore of beautiful Shireet Lake to get to Shuranga Valley. We will stop by a nomadic family and build our camping ger nearby. Experience a real nomadic lifestyle and learn about our culture. The family will serve you with yak milk tea, and other dairy products such as aaruul (dried curds), byaslag( plain cheese) and buttercream. In the evening, you will see a traditional process of producing Shimiin arkhi, (Mongolian vodka) and taste some of it before dinner. It is our tradition to drink milk vodka after migration or hard work or in a case of catching cold or flu.

Day 7: SHURANGA- ELSEN TASARKHAI (MINI GOBI)

After farewell with the family, horse guides, horses and yaks, we will drive to Elsen Tasarkhai (Sole Sand Dunes) which is unique and historical site. On the way, we will have lunch in Arvaikheer sum, central city of Uvurkhangai province and see the Shuranga Red Rock. It is unique and camel shaped rock, rich with Mongolian old script inscriptions in blank ink and red ochre cross marks that dates from Paleolithic period. In Mini Gobi site, we will have an opportunity to hike on the small sand dunes. You can also ride a camel on the sand dunes. The long strip of sand dunes covering an area of 47000 hectares, this park contains many historical monuments, forests of silver birches and poplar trees, and sources.

Day 8: ELSEN TASARKHAI-ULAANBAATAR

After breakfast, we will go back to Ulaanbaatar by land transfer. We will visit Bogd Khaan palace museum-one of the first museums in Mongolia. It used to be a residence of the last Bogd Khaan of Mongolia. You can also go for shopping of souvenirs and handmade gifts. We invite you for farewell dinner before watching Mongolian traditional dance and music show. Tumen Ekh is a wonderful small sized theater with closer stage view full of Mongolian tradition and aesthetics. Mongolian throat singing is very unique and must be experienced. After the show, you will be dropped off at your hotel.

Day 9: DEPARTURE

Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport for your departure.
